Nederland, Co is one of the most peaceful places I have visited. I absolutely love it here. I was here in March and it was beautiful but this time of year no snow and warm sunny weather I am in Heaven.
The weekend before I left for Colorado I went over to Victoria with Kevin. We were both racing the Q’s Victoria Track Series 10 000m. I have not raced on the track since High school 1500m and 3000m. Since I was a bit nervous about it I thought it would be a good idea to throw myself in it. www.Kathy-Butler.com thought it was a good idea as well.
I had a goal time in mind anything under 36′ would be great. I have been doing a bulk of miles preparing for Toronto Marathon so was not sure if that would be attainable.
The race was mixed Men and women from the start I was off pace for sub 36. Gillian Gook was in the lead with 2 other men while Melissa Ross and I had a race going on between us. It was so good to have her there to push me. Melissa and I had a sprint finish with her catching me at the line. Gillian ran a super strong race Way To Go!! Looking forward to racing that distance on the track again. I was very close to my pb finishing in 36:37 and felt I ran a strong solid race.
The men’s A race was exciting to watch. You can watch it here, video by Christopher Kelsall
Congratulations to everyone that raced that night!
I arrived in Nederland a few days after the 10000m race. The first few days I spent recovering from the race and acclimating to the altitude. I was exhausted Tuesday and Wednesday. I did a tempo on Thursday that told me very clearly I was still not quite adjusted. Friday and Saturday I have started to feel like myself again.
I have also been practicing Yoga at Core Power Yoga Boulder They have amazing instructors there. I have really enjoyed Tunde, Jason, and Raj classes! Its a nice treat to go and practice somewhere new and get new information from different instructors. They have such a beautiful yoga community in Boulder.
Today Kathy, Susie and I ran 45′ easy in the Nederland trails. There is so many miles of beautiful trail to run on. Im hoping on one of our runs I’ll get to see a Moose. Tomorrow Kathy, Nicole and I are racing in Denver. Im using the race as a good hard effort tempo. The weather is supposed to nice however we have to leave Nederland at 4:45am which is not so nice.
The rest of the day today was really relaxing hanging out at the beach and the coffee shop. I am Loving being on Vacation.
